The union and labor reality, told straight
McCormick Place is famous for its union jurisdictions, and the reputation is earned but outdated in places. Teamsters control freight from dock to booth. Electricians handle hardwired power. Riggers own anything overhead. Your machine will move from truck to booth on union labor billed through your show's general contractor, usually per hundredweight with a minimum, and there is no way around that. Anyone who tells you they will wheel a crated claw machine across the McCormick show floor themselves is telling you they have never exhibited there.
The good news: McCormick Place publishes an Exhibitor Bill of Rights, and reforms over the years have relaxed the small stuff. You can hand-carry small packages and pop-up displays, set out your own literature and products, plug in your own computers after power is run, and use the ASUV program to unload a personal vehicle at designated areas. Our machine is not a hand-carry item, so here is the honest division of labor: you (or your exhibit house) order material handling and power in your exhibitor kit, and our Pro Set-Up Service handles everything else: freight paperwork for direct-to-show delivery, timing matched to your target move-in window, placement, leveling, testing, and prize loading, plus the COI your show management requires. Getting around Chicago
O'Hare is about 18 miles from McCormick Place, figure 45 to 60 minutes in traffic. Midway is closer at about 11 miles, but drive times often land in the same range. Book flights into either; pick whichever has the nonstop.
Skip the rental. Rideshare is plentiful, and McCormick Place has its own Metra Electric station one stop from the Loop. If you are staying on the McCormick campus, you can walk the skybridge to the show floor without touching a car all week.
McCormick Place operates paid on-campus lots, but during major shows they fill and rates add up fast. If you must drive daily, budget for it; otherwise let the skybridge hotels solve the problem.

Lake-effect snow and deep cold can slow regional freight, back up docks, and turn a tight timeline into a missed one.
