San Diego is one of the friendlier big-league convention cities. At the San Diego Convention Center, the facility maintains jurisdictional agreements with four unions covering setup, installation, and teardown, and at cited shows the material handling runs through the show's general service contractor. In practice: your machine arrives at the dock in the published window, the GSC crew moves it to your space, and our Pro Set-Up Service or your booth staff handles the rest.
Small items you can hand-carry are generally not an issue, but anything palletized or on wheels, and a 700-plus pound claw machine qualifies, goes through the GSC. Budget the material-handling rate per pound into your booth math and it stays boring, which is the goal.
Hotel ballrooms, Petco Park, and the Port Pavilion are lower friction: no exhibit-floor jurisdiction, just house rules, dock schedules, and in-house AV exclusives to respect. Getting around San Diego
San Diego International Airport sits about 3 miles from the convention center, one of the shortest airport-to-hall runs of any major convention city: 10 to 15 minutes by rideshare outside of Comic-Con week, when Harbor Drive turns into a parade.
Skip the rental car if you are staying downtown. The convention center, Petco Park, the Gaslamp, and the Broadway Pier are all within a 20-minute walk of each other, the MTS Trolley stops at Gaslamp Quarter and Convention Center stations, and downtown event-week parking runs painful. Rent a car only if your schedule includes La Jolla, Sorrento Valley offices, or Torrey Pines.
During Comic-Con, plan on foot. Street closures around the Gaslamp make walking faster than any vehicle, which is exactly why sidewalk-level activations there earn their rent.

San Diego's weather is the closest thing to a guarantee in event planning: mild, dry, and outdoor-friendly nearly year-round. The one catch is the marine layer, the May Gray and June Gloom mornings that keep the bayfront overcast until early afternoon, worth knowing if your outdoor activation banks on sunshine photos before noon.
